Balma d'Eole

Domaine Balma d'Eole

The Balma d’Eole estate is committed to transforming the fruits that nature offers with respect and precision. Its ambition is to create a biodiverse ecosystem where the vines coexist harmoniously with trees and bees, in a quest for balance and sustainability for the years to come. Biodynamic certification is currently underway. Located in Rochegude, the estate is rooted in family-owned lands certified organic since 2008. Benefiting from an exceptional heritage, it is home to ancient massal selections of Carignan and Grenache dating back to 1946. The vineyards are spread across four distinct plots: rolled pebbles and red clay in Suze-la-Rousse, and garrigue and limestone in Lagarde-Paréol. Vineyard work is primarily manual. For the harvest, the timing is determined by careful observation of ripeness, aiming to balance freshness and sun exposure. Grapes are picked in small crates to minimize oxidation and ensure meticulous selection, preserving their quality. This moment, shared with friends who lend a hand, becomes a true celebration of the year’s efforts. In the winery, nothing is set in stone: whole clusters, partial or full destemming… decisions are made based on fermentation progress and the character of the vintage. Indigenous yeasts naturally guide the process, with no added oenological inputs. Grapes are pressed manually to retain their freshness. For the 2022 vintage, aging was carried out in vats, with other approaches being considered for future vintages. Five cuvées have been crafted, some from single vineyard plots, others as carefully blended creations, reflecting a harmonious mix of intuition and precision. A must-discover!
